From Sand to Sunset: Pro Tips for Stunning Beach Photos in Naples & Marco Island

Thinking about getting some amazing photos taken on the beautiful shores of Naples or Marco Island? Having photographed hundreds of couples and families on these beaches, I’m here to share some insider tips to make your beach photo session a breeze. (Seriously, sand lives in my camera bag.)

Ready? Let’s dive in!

1. Timing is Everything

First things first – let’s talk about lighting. The best time for beach photos? Early morning or late afternoon. We are talking the hour after sunrise or the hour just before sunset. These magical times, known as the “golden hour,” offer the softest, most flattering light. Plus, you’ll avoid the midday crowds, harsh shadows and squinty eyes. Trust me, your skin will glow, and the colors will pop!

2. Dress to Impress (and Stay Comfortable)

Choosing the right outfit can make or break your beach photos. Go for light, flowy fabrics that catch the sea breeze – think maxi dresses, linen shirts, or cute sundresses. Stick to soft, pastel colors or classic white to complement the sandy beach and turquoise water. Coordinate your outfits to complement each other without being too matchy-matchy. Don’t forget to consider the footwear – barefoot is best for those natural, carefree shots. And don’t be afraid to get a little wet!

3. Hair and Makeup Tips

Beach hair, don’t care? Not quite! The beach breeze can be both a blessing and a curse. Opt for hairstyles that embrace the wind, like loose waves or a messy bun. For makeup, keep it natural and light – waterproof mascara and a bit of bronzer can go a long way. Be sure to use sunscreen if you plan on being outside in the days leading up to your session. Harsh sunburn and tan lines are not cute.

4. Know the Best Spots

Naples and Marco Island have some seriously Instagram-worthy spots. Here are a few favorites:

  • South Marco Beach

  • Tigertail Beach

  • Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park

  • Barefoot Beach Preserve

  • Lovers Key State Park

5. Remember that Florida Weather is Wild.

Florida weather can be unpredictable. We are lightning and hurricane central, after all. We are at the mercy of mother nature, especially in the summer time. Sometimes, a stormy moody sky can add a dramatic flair to your photos, but it's best to avoid any severe weather conditions. It is also important to note that we are not always blessed with a beautiful sunset each night. Overcast skies are pretty too!

7. Bring Bug Spray

Speaking of nature, it gets insanely buggy here during certain times of the year. If you are sensitive to bug bites of any kind (or simply just hate being itchy) it is highly suggested that you bring bug spray.

6. Move!

Don’t be afraid to move! Run along the shore, dance with your significant other or splash in the waves. Movement adds a dynamic element to your photos and helps capture the joy and freedom of the beach.

7. Relax and Have Fun!

The most important tip? Relax and enjoy yourself! The best photos happen when you’re genuinely having a good time. Don’t worry too much about striking the perfect pose – candid moments often make the most memorable photos.

So, there you have it – some simple yet effective tips to getting those dreamy beach photos. Whether it’s for an engagement shoot, an elopement or just because - follow these tips, and you’ll have a blast creating beautiful memories.

Ready to book your session? Let’s make some magic happen!
